Biography

Meat Loaf

A profile of the larger-than-life actor and singer. Born Marvin Lee Aday outside Dallas Texas, in 1947, he was dubbed Meat by his dad when he was just three. Getting hooked on performing while in high school, his love for entertaining took him to Los Angeles, but Meat's career didn't take off until he partnered with songwriter Jim Steinman. Though rejected by most major record labels, 1977's "Bat Out of Hell" wound up becoming one of the biggest selling albums of all time. Fame took its toll on Meat, as he struggled with addictions and bankruptcy. By the mid-80s, he had to rebuild his career from scratch, and he did so when in 1993 he earned a best vocal Grammy for the single "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That).

COSMIC COLLISIONS

Space is vast; yet it is full of collisions. Gas and dust electrostatically flock together, and gravity takes over coalescing grains into rocks, rocks into boulders. Asteroids collide again and again, striking planets and each other. Stars collide creating monsters of light and energy. Even galaxies collide over millions of years, Space is a rough place to be.

Biography

Green Day

Formed in Rodeo, California, when the members were only 14, Green Day has always struggled to stay on the razor's edge between punk credibility and mega-platinum success. That struggle led to exhaustion in 1996, a cancelled tour, and a questionable future. The question was answered with the release of "Nimrod," in 1997, which spawned the top 10 single "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." The release of the self-described punk rock opera, "American Idiot," in 2004 cemented their place in rock history.

Freddie Mercury

Queen's legendary lead singer Freddie Mercury earned a place in modern rock history as the writer and singer of some of its most legendary songs: "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen," "We Are the Champions," and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Born in Zanzibar to Indian parents and later raised in India, Mercury and his "Queen" bandmates went on to sell albums in unit totals that rival the Beatles. His remarkable four octave singing range was a key ingredient in the band's success. Mercury famously died of AIDS in late 1991, less than 24 hours after a public admission he had contracted the disease.
